There are several models that work similarly. If you do not have one of these models, you can still watch the video, a lot of the tips and techniques will be useful for other models as well. Learn to clean and use an iron lady, or gent. The machine being used is an 1889 Singer VS2, with a fiddle base sewing machine head. The decals are very worn but Bertha glides. The long bullet shaped shuttle clicks as you sew. I have been featured in several quilt magazines with my machines and quilts made entirely on treadle and hand crank sewing machines. In 2004 I was a guest on HGTV's Simply Quilts show with Alex Anderson, show #923. I also speak to quilt guilds about antique and collectible sewing machines and since 1999 have participated in the Civil War Revisited in Fresno, California. Over the years thousands of people have seen my machines operate effortlessly and many re-enactors have come to me for advice to get their machines operating.
